Swan Group’s Valley of Fire Challenge for Shelter Scotland

Dylan MacdonaldGeneral News, Shelter

Our fundraising in aid of Shelter Scotland kicks off with a series of challenges taken on by Phil McGinlay, our Managing Director along with his brother Barry. The first challenge is the Nevada Desert Training Camp led by a trained team who are a mixture of UK and US instructors from various military units including Special Forces.

Phil, Barry and the group start by parachuting from a height of 15,000 ft. into the desert, landing in the Valley of Fire, State Park in Nevada. The group are expected to hunt and navigate for food and water whilst crossing this rigorous mountain terrain. With no tents, they will sleep on the desert floor with just sleeping bags and a poncho. The group cannot communicate with the outside world, while they are In the desert for 5 days.

Phil said of the challenge:

“Since Swan Group started, with the specific aim of building more affordable housing and creating homes for social housing, we have been very aware of the challenges faced by many individuals and families in securing a place to live. This is why we are raising funds in aid of Shelter Scotland. We’re proud to be supporting Shelter Scotland and their vital work campaigning for everyone’s right to a safe home.

“I have been in training for a year for these series of challenges. While it is a daunting prospect I’m really motivated, both on a personal level and as part of Swan Group’s commitment to support the fantastic work Shelter Scotland are doing to fight homelessness. We will be organising more events and challenges to support Shelter Scotland, so watch this space!”

Good luck to Phil and we can’t wait to hear all about it on your return!
